"U" should be written as "you."

KFC Grammar Nuggets

First of all, typing in all capital letters does not provide emphasis, only confusion. There should be a comma after "By all means." "Steady" should be "steadily" because an adverb is necessary.

The apostrophe in the first line is unnecessary. Buffet is supposed to be plural, not possessive. "Each person" is singular. "They" is plural. "They" should be singular so as to agree with "each person." "They are" should be "he/she is."

Somewhere Over the Raindow...

Not only is this really cheesy, but also it contains the misspelled word. It should be rainBow.

Arkansas Travelers Receipt Mistake

My sister-in-law noticed this mistake while we were attending an Arkansas Travelers game. The apostrophe is unnecessary since the Travs do not own anything here.

Murry's Dinner Playhouse E-mail Mistake

The subject of the headline is "KIDS" and the verb is "IS." This subject and verb do not agree. "IS" should be "ARE." I don't think that the colon is necessary in the headline either. A comma would work in its place. Often, a colon in a headline means that a person has said something that is being quoted.

All makes and models/modles

This mistake has been on this sign for months. My husband risked our lives to stop at this point on the highway and take this picture. (Thanks, I guess. He is fully committed to this cause. Ha!) Modles should be models.

Kerby Funeral Home and Second-hand Caskets

Thanks to Dad for alerting me to this one. I have only skimmed this page. There are several mistakes, but the most glaring mistakes are in the blue box in the lower right of the picture. I first tried to use Photoshop to write in the corrections, but I soon found this too daunting a task. The box should be written as follows:

We do not sell seconds or scratch-and-dents. If, however, we should decide to do so, (remove be) rest assured that you, the customer, will know it in advance.

An avid second-hand shopper, I was completely unaware that one could be buried in a second-hand casket. Oh, the possibilities! Then, as my mind wanders, I try to imagine at what point one gets through using a casket so that it can be re-used. FYI, I really don't care if my casket has a few dents. Second-hand all the way!

****Ok. Ok. Dad has so kindly pointed out that seconds means defective not second-hand. It is still funny to think about it if you are weird as am I. My mind was wandering/wondering, so I just never know where that is going to lead.

More Vacation Finds

This one was at a DQ in Mississippi. I don't think they sell an Iron Grill Clud. I think it is a club. Actually, upon closer inspection, someone had tried to use a permanent marker to make the D into a B. The sign person must have run out of B letters.

This is a sign posted at a side entrance at the hotel in which we stayed. There should be a hyphen in the word reentry. It should be re-entry. Perhaps this is just a style issue, but generally, it seems that when adding a prefix to a word would change the pronunciation of the word, the hyphen is necessary to avoid confusion.

Gulf Shores/Orange Beach Signs With Mistakes

Only if the employees own "only" is this sign correct. Imagine my delight when I found this sign at the front desk of our hotel. Imagine the front desk lady's confusion when we tried to explain why I wanted the picture. :) The apostrophe is not necessary.

It should be detergent.

No apostrophe needed in tattoos.

There is a subject/verb agreement issue in the Please Read sign. Is should be are because the conjunction or is used.

Manditory should be mandatory.

Cap'n Crunch Mistake

I know that this is an insanely terrible picture. During the last few days of school, a student brought this to me. She had been eating her breakfast when she noticed this mistake. (It makes me so happy when students catch these kinds of things!) The Cap'n says, "These kids can hit! Can you find who's blast went the farthest?" The Cap'n doesn't mean, "...who is blast went the farthest." He means, "...whose blast went the farthest." Good job, Rachel!

Apostrophes at Everything's a Dollar

I have come to the conclusion that many products that land on the shelves of dollar stores land there because there are mistakes in the packaging. I didn't spend the dollar to purchase this. I just snapped a picture of it with my cell phone. (The aisle was well-populated, so I took the picture hastily, thus the blurry nature of the photo.) No apostrophe is necessary. The Grow Me doesn't own anything, nor does the manufacturer mean Grow Me is. I should have scoured the packaging for more mistakes, but I was anxious to seek out more mistakes on other products. ;) And...yes, I did hear people asking how much things cost. One person asked me directly how much and item was. Everything's a dollar.

Venders/Vendors

When I worked for a newspaper, we often debated whether it should be written Farmers' Market, Farmer's Market, or Farmers Market. Our editor just decided that for his newspaper we would write Farmers Market, as this sign is written. The first mistake that I noticed with this sign is that "vender" should be "vendor." Capitalization rules are a bit more lax when creating a sign, I realize, but there seems to be no pattern to the capitalization in this sign.

A Part vs. Apart

Kudos to the author of this sign for the correct use of "it's." The ampersand thing is inappropriate because it follows a period. "Apart" should be "a part" because the author wants people to join the group, to become a part of the group. When using the word "apart," the author denotes being separate or distant.
