From Saline Courier

This is a post on the Facebook page of Saline Courier, one of Saline County, Arkansas' local newspapers. 

There is an apostrophe missing in New Year's resolutions. The antecedent of it is resolutions; therefore, the word them should be used instead of it. Commas should separate the two independent clauses in the second sentence and again in the last sentence. Perhaps a proofreading resolution is in order for the newspaper staff. 

The Dryer Makes Your Car Drier

Find this one on Reynolds Road in Bryant, Arkansas. It should be written DRYER. Dryer=noun, machine that dries. Drier=adjective, not as wet. 

According to this website (http://grammarist.com/usage/drier-dryer/), the distinction between the two spellings is relatively new.   

What??

This is quite confusing. Who died? Who was on the porch? Is that a picture of the victim or the accused? (I'm assuming it is a photo of the accused.)

Magic Springs Promotion

My dear daughter was not only excited about possibly getting to use this promotion to go to Magic Springs, but also she was delighted to show me the mistakes she found: 

1.  According to the calendar, the 11th of August is followed by the 15th. 

2.  The word "ticekt" should be ticket. 

Rememberance/remembrance

I hope the extra letter carved into this communion table is visible in this picture. It should read REMEMBRANCE. This one is from Greenbrier, Arkansas.

The author of this sign delights passersby with humorous gems. This political gem needs one more O in "TO."

I chuckled at the blatant disregard for the message on this sign. The capitalization is random. I found this one in Bryant, Arkansas' Target.

The MOBILE HOMES need no apostrophe.

PATS needs an apostrophe.

Alert! Alert! There is a random apostrophe in "sundae's." Why no apostrophe in "smoothies"?

Hot Springs

Oh, Jahna's, the name of your city is Hot Springs; therefore, when making the name of your city possessive, you should add the apostrophe after the -s. (There are two schools of thought as to whether or not there should be an -s after the apostrophe: Hot Springs' or Hot Springs's)

DeVito's Apostrophe Catastrophe

Thanks to Robin for this one. The apostrophe in the name of the restaurant is correct. The apostrophes in the red headings are not correct. The writer intended to show that there are multiple appetizers, Italian dinners, and salad entrees.

I quit buying gas from Big Red stores about a year ago when I bought a bad tank of gas from them, and they wouldn't pay for the repairs; I do miss the fertile ground for grammar mistakes, though. Here the apostrophe after sundae is incorrect. The scoop of orange sherbet was yummy.

It should be TOO not TO.

The apostrophe in Tech's is wrong. The techs do not  possess anything according to this sign. The plural is needed, not the possessive.

Tsk. Tsk. Hallmark, you should know that this spelling of stationary means not moving. The correct spelling of the paper upon which one writes is stationery.

I'm not sure what this means, but I am sure that the writer should have used TO instead of TOO. This was beside Interstate 30 in Bryant, Arkansas.

Your/you're

Robin found this one in Little Rock. The your/you're mistake is one of my personal pet peeves! If you mean YOU ARE, use YOU'RE. The shirt reads, "If your scared, say your scared." It should read, "If you're scared, say you're scared." Yes, after considering that this made it to a shirt to be worn again and again, I am scared.
